I just had a few brief responces to posts of the last few days (01/14/99)
1) If you travel through rural America you will find an astonishing number
of people who can't even spell alligator, no less describe one. Please
don't think badly of me when I say I am glad that these are the same people
who won't be freezing themselves, and won't be part of our far future.
2) I have tried many types of dice on my car mirror, and I found that fuzzy
dice seemed best. Following that thinking, I tend to lean toward fuzzy
locic too! <intended as humor!>
3) I have considered the possibility that as science advances, and society
improves, we may be revived somewhere in the future. I also recognize that
in the future they may discover that there were inherent errors in our
early 21th century cryonics technics that perhaps could cause irrepairable
damage regardless of technology. In the case of irrepairable damage to
memory, we may end up being the only "mentally handicaped" people in the
future. This along with the fact that they may be able to prolong life
remarkably farther than we can now, could be a recipe for a very long drawn
out self inflicted hell like existence. Plus we currently have no idea what
the acceptable politics regarding us will be. It might be perfectly legal
to purchase us as there is no other real use for "retards from the past"
for experiments etc. because we could easily be reclassified as dead or
without rights or unviable as independant adults or wards of the state to
be done with as THEY choose! We could be seen as undesirable genetic throw
backs that no one ( in the future) wants around, breeding, competing, for
whatever shortages there are in the future etc. We may just be thrown out
with the rest of the trash from the 21st. century. After all, by then who
will want or need us!??? Sorry for the pessimistic veiw, but it seems like
someone should remind you that other possibilities exist! I am hoping for
the best, I am considering ALL the possibilities.
4) I think the memory jounal is an excellent idea! The time line
doumentation is a sound plan. I recomend you put the journal in written
form. People who bring vidio tapes or computer disks into the future may
get the same resonse as I would if I showed up at your house with a 8-track
tape! Would you be able to play an 8-track tape today? (I hope you all said
no!) Only a third of a century old technology! Please remember the shelf
life of the products you choose to "preserve" your jounal with, for
example, poloriods and cheap/fast processed film often decay after a few
decades. Non-waterproof storage invites mold etc. Yes make a journal, but
take real care in your choices. Remember, it can be seen by you in the
future as a huge reminder of everything and everyone you have lost for ever
too! So choose it's contents with care! (yes, 21st. century fruit cake will
still be good until mid-24th century sometime, but no milk please!)
5) relax about forgeting 90% of the names of kids you went to grade school
with! It is non-essential info and nature makes us forget deliberately as
part of our healthy processes. You will need room for tons of new info in
the future. Yes I understand the issue of identity = memory. Relax or I'm
going to administer some of those bliss-inducing drugs !
6) My feelings about frozen eggs are: I prefer fresh eggs, sunnyside up
with a side of bacon. Thank You.
