Haftka" <> Subject: How to attract more people to cryonics >How old were you when you became interested in cryonics? > >With this question coming up again, I think that the age group we >should target is crucial. I think that young people are the most likely >group, as I myself became interested in cryonics while in high school. I first became curious about cryonics in high school, too, when I read an early magazine article; but I didn't take it seriously in a *personal* way until I met a real cryonicist when I was 28. For years I have talked to high school and junior high classes about cryonics. I have encouraged Alcor to keep sending free material to students working on reports. I encouraged the production of a web page that would be suitable for students. But this is for *long-term* payoff. Very few students will become cryonicists until they are both financially independent from their parents and a bit closer to noticing they might not be immortal. I am hoping that there are indeed millions of young people already out there who will suddenly realize they want cryonics when faced with the deaths of their grandparents or parents or friends -- or when some adult-focused appeal from us gets in front of their eyes. I have the occasional bit of anecdotal evidence that cryonics is making a deep impression on many young people. We'll see what happens.
