Subject: Euthanasia in a foreign nation for suspension purposes
Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 01:45:45 PDT

Hello,

If a person were to be "euthanized" (killed) in a foreign nation would it be
legal to have them suspended there and then the body shipped back to the
states for permanent storage? Is there any state in the states where you
could be euthanized without legal troubles?

I do not like the idea of as an old man worrying that I may die unnoticed by
people to have my body decay for hours or even days before a suspension team
arrives to freeze me. The damage that could happen to my brain in that time
could be even beyond far future nanotechnology to repair.

I would rather live my life to seventy or so, and then go in to have the
procedure done so my brain will have the very best chance of a full recovery
down the road. I realize that I could die tomorrow in an accident but under
optimal conditions this is how I would like to do things.

I have heard stories of people even relocating to be close to cryonic
facilities! I read about one cryonics organization officer who refuses to
fly or drive in dangerous areas because he is afraid of dying in a way that
would rule out the possiblity of suspension! he doesn't want to take any
chance on missing out on seeing the future!
Is that a common attitude among cryonics people?

Sincerely,

John Grigg
