You are generally right (suicide brings autopsy which destroys the brain
and hence destroys the patient).

However it has turned out that if a patient starves him/herself to death
there is no autopsy. Yes, this causes some extra damage --- besides which,
it's rather inhumane. But that is what some cryonics patients have done
in cases in which otherwise their brains would have been destroyed if
they had waited for "death" in the sense which the legal system and
most doctors define it.
