I expressed some skepticism about the seriousness of this, but now I have to say that the pessimism seems to have a foundation. The smell of "burning" I have noticed before is back, and comes and goes. Just recently Mr. Nord himself brought to my attention an article by Donald Bartlett and James Steele about a silicon wafer plant in Phoenix that is producing pollution and creating a "rotten egg" smell. That isn't exactly how I would characterize the odor around here, but it is an obnoxious one; maybe there is a connection.
