X-Message-Number: 1220 Date: 22 Sep 92 21:27:08 EDT From: Charles Platt <> Subject: CRYONICS To: Kevin Brown In response to J. Mason and others who want hard facts on the feasibility of cryonics: Various research strategies have been tried to eliminate the growth of ice crystals that form when tissue is frozen. Although some methods have shown promise (e.g. freezing under extremely high pressure) no way has been found to eliminate ice damage completely. Hugh Hixon has written a short paper titled "How Cold is Cold Enough?" which addresses the question of storage temperatures. It is available from Alcor. Topics such as these are not always addressed on cryonet, mainly because they have been addressed in the past. Buried in the cryonet archives are messages of the type that you are looking for. However, it would be simpler for you to call Alcor's toll-free number, (800) 367 2228, and ask them for literature on the topics that interest you. --Charles Platt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=1220
