For John Krug:

I agree totally that we should donate to research and especially that we
should not (and really CANNOT) depend on anyone other than cryonicists to
do the needed research, either for improved cryopreservation or improved
revival methods.

Recently in PERIASTRON I discussed some work which looks like it may
produce a true nanocomputer (if it can be pursued). I will note that this
conforms to just what I'd expect. Fine, we get lots of nanocomputers.
Whether or not such devices ever help US with our problems still depends
on US ALONE. They would have to not only be built but programmed, and
who else would do the programming? For that matter, their design may
become crucial too --- and who else would design them? We cannot escape
the need to pay for research NOW with stories about how someday the
necessary work will be done by those who aren't cryonicists.... no matter
what kind of work that may be, biological, biotechnological, computing,
even uploading requires that someone lift their finger from writing
speculation and actually DO something SPECIFICALLY for cryonics.

			Best and long long life,

				Thomas Donaldson

PS: I transferred INC to Paul Wakfer when he was trying to raise money.
I no longer am head of it; since Paul Wakfer seems to have lost most of
his interest in cryonics, I would be happy to take it up again.

With email it's far easier to communicate between the US and Australia,
too... though when I left it wasn't so clear that Paul would lose
interest.
