X-Message-Number: 12403 From: "John de Rivaz" <> Subject: Migration barriers and cryonic revivals Date: Sun, 12 Sep 1999 10:34:44 +0100 I have been receiving private emails expressing concerns about the location of cryopreservation facilities, and have therefore written this article for a more open debate: I predict that by the time people are revived international barriers will have fallen and it will all be one planet. Concerns about nationality, race and locality will have gone by the time cryonic revivals take place. The concept of immigration controls, work permits, visas, passports and so on will have gone the way of slavery, conscription, taxation and other outmoded economic systems. There is a model in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. I don't think things are that bad in the old west Germany now. You can also consider the liberalisation of the telephone industry. At one time all telephones were owned by monopolies and customers could only rent their "apparatus", often at a rental equivalent to buying a new phone every year. It was stated by those that run the companies, usually owned by governments, that if people were allowed their own phones, and to connect things like answering machines or modems to the world's telephone system, the system would collapse into anarchy. Of course this was all nonsense designed to keep many professionals in cushy jobs. The fact is that people are sufficiently diverse to want to live in different places. A lot of people are quite happy where they are and, unless driven out by authoritarians trying to move people about the world like chess pieces, (racial or national cleansing) they will stay there. The most democratic instrument you have is your money - spend it and you support whoever you are spending it with. This is true regardless of whether you have $1 or a million, but obviously the more you have the more you can influence the world. If there was a global buyers strike of travel for say a month in protest against migration controls, the I am sure the governments of the world would take notice - travel is one of their biggest money earners. Now that is seen as a lunatic idea I am sure. But I do predict that global barriers, like the Berlin Wall will eventually fall. Look at a picture of the Earth taken from the moon, and you will see how stupid they are. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz my homepage links to Longevity Report, Fractal Report, my singles club for people in Cornwall, music, Inventors' report, an autobio and various other projects: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JohndeR Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=12403
