I think that it should be pointed out (as I have done many times without
the advantage of such a major and current illustrative example), that
your exact same statment:

Applies to the quest for perfected long-term suspended animation.
No fundamentally new scientific or technological breakthroughs are
necessary there either.
The design space of currently available chemical and physical variables
is almost certainly sufficient to do the job.
And clearly, the value of the achievement, THE END OF NON-OBLITERATIVE
DEATH, is far greater than the goal of Blue Gene.

That is the reason why I have urged and continue to urge
life-extensionists to put all their wealth which is not necessary to
maintain a high level of health, a moderate level of material benefit,
funding for a cryonic suspension, and adequate funding for retirement or
disability into the quest for perfected long-term suspended animation
with the research organization of their choice.
