A few days ago Alteon Inc. announced the commencement of Phase II
trials of their ALT-711 compound. An earlier announcement late
summer/ early spring, 1999 advised, that Alteon was in
negotiations with a very large Japanese pharmaceutical company,
for the Asian distribution rights. It seems reasonable
conjecture, that they have now obtained financing from that
source, that this financing also covers the conclusion of Phase
III and that Phase III clinical tests will be concluded by late
2001.

Now here is my question to those, who have experience in such
matters:

What is a reasonable estimate of the time involved, after
successful conclusion of Phase III, for bringing the drug through
FDA approval and onto the market, assuming that the inherent
financial hurdles are manageable, without causing any delay in
addition to the approval process?

Best,
Olaf
