This may be the "killer ap." (bad words for the subject:-) > of cryonics marketing. What about a first try in John's land near > Portowant (sp?). Although I have approx 50 acres at Porthtowan, it is not building land nor is it likely to become building land because it is within sight of the coast and also of special scientific interest. There would be little point in building on it anyway, as houses in Porthtowan are relatively (to other areas of the county) cheap anyway. Several people wanting to move out have not been able to sell their houses at a price that would buy a comparable building elsewere wherever they wanted to go. You can "walk" through Porthtowan (a bit of it that is ) on http://www.porthtowan.com/ if your browser supports image mapping. > > My two pence along these ideas: I suggest to sell virtual houses. > When you buy one, you may stand in a house of a network. The same applies, I should imagine, to any location near the sea with a warm current or in the temperate zones. The bad news is that if you are on the water's edge you are subject to the full force of the wind, which in parts of the USA means hurricanes and tornados. However if you are 400 yards or more from the coast, then the force of the weather is considerably diminished. People considering a move to the US from a foreign country need to consider the tax implications of living in the US. According to Lord Rees-Mogg in The Sovereign Individual, the US has one of the most savage tax regimes in the world. See the other article I posted today re investment for an excerpt from the book on this subject. I do not know how severely the US tax authorities punish their citizens for making capital gains on the stock market - maybe some US readers of cryonet can enlighten us - but if it is as half as bad as the picture Lord Rees-Mogg paints then it explains why so many cryonicsts seem leery of investing as opposed to buying life insurance. It would be interesting to make a table of the penalties the US government puts on various things a citizen can do. eg realise a gain of $100,000 on the stock market tax=? exceed the speed limit fine=? kill someone whilst exceeding the speed limit fine=? get caught defrauding someone of $100,000 and yourself lose the money fine=? injure someone in a drunken brawl fine=? marry someone less well off and fail to keep the marriage going damages=?
