Subject: RE : publicity

You see, that's the problem... when people think cryonics they think about
wierd sci fi movies, an occasional news story about someone storing Mom in
the freezer and a crackpot here and there. That's why I don't understand
why people who sell magical herbal life extension remedies from their
basement get roughly thirty times the publicity as legit cryonics orgs.
Then when you ask someone on this list, "Why isn't cryonics more popular,"
they say, "We need more proof," - - Tell that to the next person who knocks
on your door selling soul travel or those shops that sell magical healing
crystals. I'm not trying to equate cryonics with religious cults and
quack medicines, but I'm saying, if people are willing to sign away their
life savings for the fountain of youth in the back of New Age Meshugah
Magazine and attend workshops in virtually every city in the US - - why isn't
cryonics as successful ? Is soul travel and reincarnation more proveable.
- - I mean, wouldn't it make sense that the more popular Cryonics is, the
more money there is for research and more chance of revival ??? That's
what bothers me... because Alcor and CI often brag about their members and
patients, yet we all know organizations 10 times as big that have shut down
overnight due to lack of interest.
Here's my question : What are you guys doing to try to generate public
interest, besides trying to revive wombat sperm ? And what's going to
happen when some quack decides to go on Jerry Springer offer his own
alternative cryonics service, and all cryonics labs wind up getting slack
from not only the public and big bro ?
