Hi everyone,

I would like to ask Thomas the following ; (I am currently reading "Going
Inside" by John Mccrone and although not very familiar with neuroscience I try
to keep updated)

John explains the way neurons react to inputs and then give an output. Higher
level neurons (in the cortex) react to a different kind of stimulus (a hand for
example) than the lower ones (e.g.in V1) which react to much direct forms of
input (like moving horizontal lines or a specific colour). Surely all the lower
level neurons are replaceable and do not participate in my consciousness in any
way? Has any report mentioned a complete list of all the neurons in the brain
that can be replaced without changing consciousness in any way? What I am
trying to find out is how much of the brain is really required for my
consciousness and how much can be replaced in the future if it is damaged. This
knowledge may help cryonic suspension institutes to take more care of those
areas that are responsible for consciousness and identity.

Bye!

Gurvinder
