This example is not about the problem with property but explains the
benefits of (Real) property over other assets. You got it back. What if
they had attacked a more liquid asset?

If someone is unhappy with you, and wants to harm you in a financial way,
and is not justified, the least possible way they can harm you is if you
own real property (real estate) as opposed to other assets. The fact that
someone tried to "take" Jan's property in an improper way and that he was
able to remove their lien and keep the property, shows that property is
very safe.

What if that bad person had chosen to take Jan's car, or Jan's cash or some
other portable asset. Jan might not have gotten "whole" again with such
ease, or maybe not at all.

With real estate someone can put a lien on it, or even a lis pendence (an
action before a lien or judgement is secured on the land - very easy to
file) it means "suit pending." But if you are right and they are wrong,
you can get their lis pendence, or lien, or judgement removed. But they
can't take the real estate and run off. And, if you can prove that they
acted in a wrongful manner, you can recover damages from them.

Of all the different types of assets a cryonicists who is planning to take
the 50 to 100 year sleep can trust, real estate is, IMHO, one of the best.
It can accumulate income for you while you are are in suspension, and it
appreciates so that it may be worth more (even in appreciated money) when
you return.

There are some problems. You have to have a property manager to watch over
it and see that no one gets an undeserved interest in the property. Choose
a deep-pocket company so that if they screw up you can recover against them.

Lastly, even though I feel comfortable with real estate as a way to create
wealth while in suspension, I also think diversification is wise. So put
some money in real estate, and some in financial instruments, and buy some
art and hide it. Don't forget to leave some to your cryonics suspension
company to help them help you.
