Birdseye", but the cost (now) would be prohibitive to build, and launch. If, "S.S. Birdseye" were to be launched into a comet type orbit, then there would be several factors to worry about. Here's just a few I can think of right off: 1) Micrometeor impacts 2) Radiation 3) Memory of *why* "S.S. Birdseye" is out there (If it's in a large orbit - many, if not hundreds of years could pass before it comes back our way) > > On the other hand, we have the technology even now to send vessels into > long slow comet-like orbits. If Alcor (or any Cryonics Organization) wants to think about long-term, then a rual area, away from metropolitan centers is the best bet. Large cities (such as Pheonix) are prime targets for terrorist attacks (biologic, "dirty nukes") not to mention an all out nuclear war between the US and (insert: Russian, China, etc). As stated by officials, "It's not a question of if a terrorist attack will happen here, it's a question of when." If a "cryonics terrorist" wants to hit a cryonics facility and is determined to do so, then it dosen't really matter where the facility is located. They would find a way. With Alcor's current location...kiss it goodbye if Phoenix is hit by a nuke. Fallout (lethal radiation levels) would be immediate in Scottsdale (if it wasn't blown away). A remote rual area, although would probably have to deal with fallout, would stand a far greater chance of surviving a nuclear war. In general, a remote rual facility would need: 1) Adequate security (alarm, and personnel) 2) Ability to make LN2 3) Alternative power suply (generator, solar, etc.) Sorry for the long rambling... Good thread to ponder over. Brent "The Fox Den" http://home.att.net/~bfox/index.html Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=15143
