X-Message-Number: 1534 From: (Thomas Donaldson) Subject: CRYONICS.splitting Date: Sat, 2 Jan 93 4:16:51 PST This is an addendum to my recent message to Saul on the issue of splitting up Alcor. The main issue (as I see it) in Saul's suggestion is that the storage function be removed from Alcor. However Saul does argue that a separate suspension organization would protect patients because that separate organization would, in practice, be the one that would get most of the "heat" from opponents or police. I omitted to point out, when I discussed this second point, that I am NOT arguing against splitting of Alcor into a suspension organization and a storage organization. What I am primarily arguing is that ALCOR SHOULD BECOME THAT STORAGE ORGANIZATION. And in those terms, Saul's OTHER comments about possible (though I still find them dubious) added protection from officials, etc would still hold. It would then be the suspension organization that would feel the "heat". But longterm protection of patients would still not be helped by splitting off a STORAGE organization from Alcor.
