Subject: Grimes add

A few more things I omitted earlier:

Grimes writes:

>Evidently Mr. Ettinger didn't actually have the information to support his
claim (on >your web site and in CryoNet) that Alcor's vitrification
procedures >are more >destructive than the procedures used at CI.

We have never made any such claim, and obviously couldn't, since we have seen
no evaluations of their results, and as far as I know no such evaluations
exist--only speculations as to probable results, based on indirect evidence.
We have seen statements by Alcor consultants that the current Alcor CPA is
less toxic than the glycerol concentration formerly used by Alcor, which was
a much higher concentration than used by CI. However, some of the background
material in a segment on our web site was misinterpreted by a few, and that
has been changed or is in the process of change. In fact, we will now include
some of the exact wording used by an Alcor consultant in private
communication.

And:

>Neither you [David Pascal] nor Robert Ettinger seems willing ever to call
Alcor to >check your facts. Why not?

We have indeed asked them and their consultants repeatedly for all available
information. Our comments have been based on public information, which anyone
can check--mainly Fred Chamberlain's article in CRYONICS, current issue.

And:

>why not buy a bottle [of ice blocker]and try it?

We have already tried some of the recently reported compounds, and will do
more. The ice blockers by themselves have limited importance, but will be
included in some of our upcoming experiments.
