Subject: triage

My reply: I have no idea why Mr. Ettinger finds it "incredible"
that some people might be revived, while others are not. Has he
heard of the principle of triage (used in every emergency room)?
His incredulity just confirms my previous statement: That he seems
to feel he "deserves" to be revived. But, adult experience in the
world teaches us that we don't always get what we deserve. Also,
people who contribute more to the world are perceived as being more
valuable. I am still not convinced that someone else (now or in the
future) will take care of everything for all of us, regardless of
   who we are.

Regarding the first part of the quote, about triage:

Not only is there triage in the emergency room, but i think there's
triage for old people, poor people, people with AIDS, and maybe others
in many hospitals.

But with cryonics the situation is genuinely different.

If for whatever reason there are not sufficient resources to revive
Mr. Jones this year, then we'll wait until next year, or next decade.

Re the second part of the quote, about who deserves to be revived:

When a similar thread came up years ago about why he would be revived,
i believe Bob Smart (whatever became of him?) used to say: ``I'll be
revived because i've paid to be revived''.

See also the cryonics FAQ, question 6-3. You can obtain the faq
by mailing with the subject 0018.[1-9] (no body),
and for my connection at least it will show up practically as fast
as you can mail it. The orgs also have faqs, and there's probably one
on the open directory project as well, at
