Subject: "Molecular Motors"

Hello,
I was waiting in a department store for some assistance with my purchase.
Unfortunately, the employees were droids who were just going through their
algorithms, so I had a lot of time, and looked at the latest issue of
"Popular Science", March 2001.
On page 31 there is an article on "Molecular Motors". It reads, in part:
"Carlo Montemagno and colleagues at Cornell University have created the
first microscopic motor - no bigger than a virus particle - that runs on a
biochemical, ATP, which the body burns to generate energy." "Integrating
biomolecular motors with nanoscale systems will enable devices that can use
ATP as an energy source, says Montemagno, who envisions such hybrid robots
repair cells. Montemagno's team is now trying to build devices that can
self-assemble inside human cells. "
I think "Popular Science", although "popular", is a respectable magazine.
If this article is not overblown, I don't have to tell you how much
significance this has for us, vitrification nothwithstanding.
I signed up for cryonics because this is the best I can do, regardless of
the result. I don't know about you, but it looks to me more and more like
we just might make it.
