Thomas, if you were talking about a regular piece of
publicity, I would agree with many of your points. However,
the Omni contest is unusual in many ways. First, it is being
underwritten by Alcor, which gives Alcor more rights in
calling the shots. Second, it provides exceptional
opportunities, such as a mailing list of contest entrants who
must be highly interested in cryonics and likely to sign up.
For these reasons I feel it would have been worthwhile to
plan and control the thing a little more closely. This might
have been easier if Alcor seemed more willing to delegate
work or assign specific tasks with specific goals to specific
people. This last, general point was my main point. It is
also the point which you did not address.

One nice thing that HAS emerged from a certain degree of
disorganization: Omni worded the rules so loosely, ANY
cryonicist can enter, with the sole exception of Alcor
employees. So, anyone who wants a free whole-body suspension,
get those essay pens rolling!

In fact, if I read the rules correctly, even I could enter
the contest. Since I have also been named as one of the
judges, I guess this wouldn't be quite fair....
