X-Message-Number: 1579 From: Subject: Alcor Laughlin Newsletter Date: Sat, 9 Jan 93 20:19:55 PST ALCOR LAUGHLIN CHAPTER NEWSLETTER SUNDAY DECEMBER 13TH 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Robert Campbell Eric Klien Don Laughlin Jerry Searcy We had a smaller meeting than normal since our last meeting was held late in the month and this meeting was held during the holidays' season. RENATA'S Our regular second Sunday meeting will be held at Renata's on January 10th. It will be held at 3 P.M. to accommodate our host's schedule. Additional information can be found on the flyer attached to this newsletter. CLARK COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT Don Laughlin was successful in arranging a meeting between Alcor Laughlin and the Clark County Health Department. On January 25th at 1:30 PM we will be meeting with representatives of this government agency. This will be a formal meeting and it is very unlikely that they will allow us to conduct any type of Alcor meeting once our discussion with them is over. If you wish to attend their address is 625 Shadow Lane, Las Vegas, NV. H. Jackson Zinn has requested a copy of the Power of Attorney in Nevada for Healthcare before he attends this meeting. I have requested a copy from the State Supreme Court Library and expect to send him a copy of it ASAP. MERCY AMBULANCE Tanya L. Jones, the Suspension Services Manager of Alcor, sent me a copy of her last letter to Mercy Ambulance. In this letter she requested that Mercy Ambulance follow through on its promise to both 1) provide the information necessary to enter local Alcor members into Mercy's '911' response computer and 2) affirm that its paramedics would honor the medic alert bracelets and necktags worn by our members. I greatly appreciate Tanya's following up on this matter and hope that this matter is soon resolved. FRED & LINDA CHAMBERLAIN Fred and Linda Chamberlain, the founders of Alcor, have donated a video tape to our group. The tape title is "Lake Tahoe Life Extension Festival - 1986, Jerry Leaf, Discussing All Phases of Cryonic Suspension". Linda said "The tape of Jerry will no doubt be the kind of thing the transport people in your organization will want to see again and again. Additionally, there may be times while you are getting local logistics in place when (perhaps) the local medical examiner, ambulance people (and so forth) might be an appropriate audience." LAS VEGAS MAYOR The mayor has not provided Cindy with copies of the letters that she was supposed to have written for us. Although the mayor DID have time to sell a phone stolen from the government at a yard sale. If Cindy makes any further progress on this matter I will report it. PUTIRKA DOG Cindy was contacted by Mark Volker, an Alcor board member, and he requested that she show up at the next Alcor board meeting to discuss the problems with her dog's suspension. The result of this meeting will be published in our next issue. PUBLICITY Thanks to the inquiry list provided to us by Tanya Jones, one new person attended our last meeting plus two new people were added to our mailing list. It is expected that since January's meeting will be our first in Las Vegas since the inquiry list was received that an additional mailing to the inquiry list will be even more productive. I'll report on the results of this second mailing in the next issue. One additional bonus from mailing to this inquiry list is that we will be featured in the Living section of the Las Vegas Review- Journal in January. Various local Alcor Nevada members will be receiving phone calls from this newspaper, except for the ones whom I know are top secret. In 1992, we were featured in one newspaper article in the Las Vegas Sun and in two TV news segments, with one of those segments being aired at least three times during the Olympics. 1993 looks to be an even more productive year publicity-wise since the Las Vegas Review-Journal is the biggest newspaper in Nevada.
