Maybe he was referring to "proportion of the global population that is
suffering from ..." It would certainly make more sense, but even then it
would seem likely that a larger portion of the population were suffering
from these things than now.

On the basis that everyone dies, then that proportion remains unity and the
question is meaningless. [You can't avoid most of the process of dying with
cryopreservation - it merely gives a chance of reversing it in the future.]
