Could you forward it onto cryonet and/or whatever CI mailing lists exists, please? Cheers Michael ----- Original Message ----- From: michaelprice To: Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2001 10:54 PM Subject: [Biostasis] Future of the UK facility We have reached the point where we have to decide what to with the UK building. This is the way I see forward. Let's imagine that we have a completely independent UK/European suspension service, using the Potts Marsh facility, with storage contracts with both Alcor US and CI. In other words suppose Alcor US accept that we are really and truly independent and not placing restrictions on how we operate. Cryonics contracts are primarily with the UK group, with the storage location as an add-on option (storage is with Alcor US, CI or in the UK). UK storage is maintained by a legally separate organisation from the suspension services, for the protection of patients in storage. Equity that anyone holds in the facility (as with any property) can be used to offset the suspension funding. The cost of a cryonic suspension is composed of the UK/European suspension service (the same for everybody) plus the storage option (which will vary, according to the storage option selected). Some of the suspension income will be used to buy out the stakes that individuals hold in the facility building, so that eventually (a decade?) the building is owned by an independent cryonics organisation, separate from the suspension organisation for liability reasons. Folks who don't wish to use the UK/European suspension service will retain their direct contracts with Alcor or CI. Obviously anyone can help in such suspensions, but use of the facility would have to be negotiated on a pay-as-you-go basis, which would not be cheap, or else the suspension organisation would go belly-up since no-one would sign up directly with it. This is the only way I can see the UK facility being useful to us all. Also it is no secret that my priority for life extension is focussing more on anti-aging approaches over recent years. Consequently I no longer wish to be the largest shareholder in the building, which means selling most of my holding to others who are prepared to buy into this scheme. (Alan has indicated that he will maintain his stake if the above scheme is accepted.) We are in the process of getting a valuation on the facility. Initially it looks as if the property will sell easily and fetch around 180K. Updating the figures from yesterday, UK facility is currently split as: Michael Price 61.2152777..% Alan Sinclair 13.888.. % Alcor US 10 % Jack St Clair 3.333.. % John Styles 2.8125 % David Flude 2.222.. % Andrew Clifford 1.875% May Flude 1.6666.. % Luigi Warren 1.25 % R H 1.1111... % Russell Whitaker 0.625 % If you wish to see the UK facility continue then we need to know what amount you are willing and able buy. We need to know quickly. I suggest you think in terms of how much can be committed within a year. Some of you can't realistically afford anything, I know, but some are better off. I'll publish the pledges received(anonymously, if preferred) within the week. Obviously a lot of details need sorting out, including negiotating the details of a storage contract with Alcor US, determining the UK/European suspension charges, arranging funding via wills, property or whatever, but we do that after seeing if there is sufficient response to justify moving forward with the facility or not.
