   >>Lastly, to Steve Harris: I like the sentiments in your
statement about immortality. But when you suggest that you want
to be free to stay alive till you get tired of it, you imply
suicide as an option. Here we have YET ANOTHER "taboo" subject!
(For many people.) Shall we start yet another thread here? Or can
everyone simply agree that some subjects are more difficult to
deal with than others, when talking about cryonics?<<

Comment From Steve Harris: well, I'm thinking about it. How
about this:

"Dear World:
I should like to have my head cut off and frozen when things
get medically bad, so that in the far future I can be repaired
and stay young for as long as I want, in order to give me time to
experiment with the full range of mind-altering drugs, different
sexual practices, and anarchic living arrangements. Later, if I
get tired, I can always kill myself. Agnostically Yours, The
Galactic Tourist. P.S. Freeze the ponytail."

How's that? It strikes me that all we need is to mention a
little incest and cannibalism and we're well on the way to
Heinlein. Or well on the way to how Heinlein talked, at least.
Of course, he didn't really have the guts to *do* any of that
stuff. Social courage, that's the real rarity of the human
race-- even rarer than imagination, which in turn is even rarer
than raw intelligence, which in turn is not exactly common.

                                  Diplomatically,

                                  Steve
