Hello everyone,

Cryonet has really taken off lately! I have read much of the old archives
and I think these are among the best of times for the cryonics movement.
When you take into consideration the development of vitrification, the
Timeship project, the Venturist project, Alcor's upgrade plan and the recent
birthing of Kryos with Shaun Russell and Mike Darwin at the helm, well
folks, this has to be the best time ever for cryonics!! I just dearly hope
and pray none of these worthy projects come to naught as sometimes happens
so painfully here.

It is so good to see Mike Darwin posting in detail on what he knows best.
Thinking about Mike help start up and helm a new cryonics company makes me
remember a dog I used to have who would relish tearing into any steak I gave
him. It is only right for a person to engage in work which they love. Mike
Darwin will help "keep things real" here on the list.

I would also like to read a good answer to this question. I always assumed
chemical fixation lead to VASTLY more damage to the brain.

Louis, you certainly do like to respond to the various posters and topics!
Based on how you respond to so much here I think the extrolist might kill
you from typing exhaustion! lol :)

Seeing the name Epstein made me wonder how Joanna Epstein is doing? I still
remember her post describing her very challenging situation.

I would be the first to admit the U.S. has done some very bad
things(murderous meddlings in the americas, etc.) and at times continues to
do so. We are certainly not without blame and have some blood on our hands.
I do think though you see conspiracy(purposeful bombing of Japanese
outpost, etc.) where there is none.

The communist mainland Chinese gov't is a tyranny lacking most of the
self-corrective abilities of even our limited democracy which has sadly been
subverted to an extent by big business, soft money and an apathetic public.

Their own news media and public is so gagged by fear and direct rule of the
communist state(and secret police) that the leadership can mostly do as they
please. And what pleases them is to run roughshod over even the rights of
their own people.

Look at not just the bad but also the good our own nation has brought to the
world. I realize it's easier to be negative then positive. But, our power
limiting constitution, our technological advances, our focus on public
education for all, our democratic example to tyrannies, our ability(with
prodding I admit) to change bad laws and social institutions and our
military victories(cold and hot and with help from allies like the British
and Australians) over political cancers like nazism and soviet communism
have made this world a far better place. In some ways we have been a great
example and inspiration to the world.

How would our communist neighbor behave if they alone in the world had our
level of economic and military power?? Just the thought is pretty
terrifying...

I am grateful to be a citizen of the United States. Matthew, I believe you
are also due to all the blessings and opportunities it provides(like a good
education). And yet, I do agree SO MUCH needs to be done to make the U.S. a
nation which truly lives up to it's ideals and does not exploit other
nations or it's own people. So, I see your concerns as an act of
patriotism.

Are we like two young Romans at the height of the empire debating whether we
are destroyers or creators? I hope not...

best wishes,

John
