The winner has to have a medical for insurance purposes. I imagine this means that the winner (if insurable) will have a policy taken out on his/her behalf and premiums paid by Alcor, OMNI or both. This would cost far less than the $100,000 mooted. If the winner is uninsurable then the question of finance stands. In any case the contest is a coup more valuable than the cost of one suspension. Looking again at the article it really is a shame that there wasn't at least one positive photograph used, perhaps an attractive, futuristic artist impression would have brightened up the whole thing. (Sad even about the gory cartoon so unrepresentative of OMNI's style). And why limited to U.S. residents only? I find this sort of parochialism almost unconscionable.
