Maybe you saw it that way, but a number of us "working types" saw a 
rather different issue.  Before Steve replaced Carlos, there had been 
a long tradition of people at Alcor being evaluated on *merit.* They 
come to Alcor, and worked there, usually as volunteers.  If they got 
along with the others and did their job well, they had more and more 
responsibility and authority heaped on them.  Most the staff has this 
kind of history.  (Even Steve has a little of this, having worked at 
Alcor a few years ago over a sabbatical from his library job, but what 
he did at that time bears little on the top management job.) 

Now, we have an event of someone being politically chosen, not "coming 
up through the ranks" or with a history of being responsible for 
Alcor's operations.  Those of us who are concerned with long term 
stability for Alcor are not very happy about the precedent--no matter 
how the results of Steve's tenure might turn out.  I think even Saul 
may come to regret the precedent.
