Subject: CRYONICS: EXTROPY #10: Nanocomputers, Self-Transformation
Date: Thu, 28 Jan 93 10:27:04 PST

WIth Kevin's permission I am posting some information on the latest issue
of EXTROPY: The Journal of Transhumanist Thought. #10 is now at the
printers and will be available in a few days.

J. Storrs Hall, moderator of the sci.nanotech newsgroup, contributes a
substantial article on "Nanocomputers." Sections:
	What is a nanocomputer?
	Nanotechnology
	General computer principles
	Additional constraints for nanocomputers
	Entropy
	Drexler's mechanical logic
	Registers and memory
	Motors
	Other logics for nanocomputers
	Other mechanical logics
	Electronic logic

J. Storrs Hall also contributes a review of Drexler's new technical work,
"Nanosystems: Molecular Machinery, Manufacturing, and Computation" (very
different from Thomas Donaldson's recent review in Cryonics!).

My article, "Technological Self-Transformation: Expanding Personal Extropy"
will also be of interest to cryonicists/immortalists, especially the section
"Self-transformation and extreme longevity" where I argue that a
commitment to self-transformation is essential for persons seeking enormously
extended lifespans.

Other contents include:

Hans Moravec, "Pigs in Cyberspace"

Hal Finney, "Protecting Privacy with Electronic Cash"

Interview with Mark Miller of Xanadu (hypertext researchers) by David Krieger

Mark Plus, "Beyond the Poor Man's Extropianism: A Review of Two Books About

Ayn Rand and Objectivism"

Review of James Gleick's "Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman"

EXTROPY #10 is $4.50, or $13.50 for a three-issue subscription. ($30 covers
an Extropy Institute membership, which includes an EXTROPY subscription plus
a sub to our bi-monthly newsletter, EXPONENT, edited by Simon! D. Levy.)
