X-Message-Number: 17130 From: "john grigg" <> Subject: That dang Ms. Pringle! Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 22:18:07 Heather Pringle, the journalist/author who wrote _The Mummy Congress_ and then later a Wired magazine article about us, and in doing so caused among cryonicists much irritation, is a popular gal on Amazon.com! I suppose her very "tongue in cheek"(without brain in head) style of writing is sadly an asset to her. Some of the comments made by appreciative fans of hers were: michaeleve from Brewster, Massachusetts There is never any talking "lightly or unfeelingly" about them. "Indeed, they often speak as if the mummies themselves can hear exactly what is being said." If so we can say this book is everything we ever wanted to know about mummies and were glad the author asked them. Priscilla Hagebusch, Tulane University The manner in which she discussed the mummy researcher as well as his/her subjects made this book an interesting and lively read. It was scientific detail and human interest all in one story, tied with the thread of the Mummy Congress, a little-known and fascinating gathering. Good job, Ms. Pringle! Quetzal There is no real storyline to this book, the anecdotes and jokes are delivered in a school child's, tell-all-you-know-about-mummies kind of way, but the material is great and every page is alive with fascinating facts. brothersjudddotcom from Hanover, NH USA Finally, the scientists and researchers who study the mummies are a colorful and interesting group in their own right and Pringle, though sympathetic to them, has a good sense of what makes them entertaining. Just trust me on this one; read the book; it's great fun. (end) Well, maybe we are a tad oversensitive, but I feel she really does need to "think through" her thoughts and arguments regarding cryonics. And who knows, maybe Ms. Pringle herself will sign up for cryonics at some point in her life! And she may even find happiness down the road with some reanimated "geeky" programmer who had the bodymod nanites turn him into a sexy Adonis! :) best wishes, John _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=17130
