Re: Correction of area code change posting

My facts re the area code change were wrong! Actually, the 909
area code went into effect on Nov. 14, 1992. The 714 area code
will continue to work until Aug. 14, 1993, not Nov 93, as
previously asserted. After Aug 14, 1993, the 714 code will *not*
work. Callers who use 714 will receive a message that it has
been changed to 909.

However, there is still no need to panic yet. What I failed to
mention is that Alcor members in the US whose bracelets/nectags
bear the 714 (this is approximately 150-200 members) will receive
new ones bearing the *800* number. This will be done before
August 14, 1993. AT&T has given us a promise in writing that we
*own* the 800 number, so it will be the same no matter where
Alcor moves its headquarters (in the US, that is.)

The problem still remains for overseas members, in that the 800
number does not work outside of the US and Canada. The
relatively low number of overseas members should allow us to
handle this without too much difficulty and/or expenditures,
however.

Above all, Alcor members should rest assured that we *are* aware
of this situation, and that we will handle it in a timely
fashion.
