X-Message-Number: 1717 Date: 06 Feb 93 00:10:31 EST From: Charles Platt <> Subject: CRYONICS Contest, forum To: Cryonet February 5, 1993 I want to remind everyone that the Omni cryonics contest is open to existing cryonics-group members, so long as they are adults who are not *employees* of Alcor. And the deadline is still many months away. You can still send in your entry, and you might win a free whole-body suspension. Since I'm one of the judges, I get to see all the essays. I received my first shipment of photocopies from Omni today, and they make fascinating reading. The quality of the writing is much better than I had expected (though there are some, er, odd ones). In due course I would like to post some of the most thoughtful essays here, although since they are the property of Alcor and Omni, I would need permission to do this. I also hope to write a short article about the essays for Omni, much later this year. I feel it's unlikely that Omni will want to dwell on cryonics after this, at least for a while. Does anyone have any contacts at Mondo 2000 or Wired? I think it's time to start thinking of a new angle to try with those magazines. On another subject, I want to mention again that "Cryonics Forum" will be a regular feature with its own four-page section in Alcor's Cryonics magazine. I am drawing material from Cryonet generally. But if someone has a statement, question, complaint, or suggestion which they particularly want published, I will give these items priority (provided they are not too long). You can send your text to me directly at if you wish. --Charles Platt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=1717
