X-Message-Number: 17361 Subject: VPS pt3 From: "Lionel Vogt" <> Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2001 10:59:51 -0400 So how does it all come together? As soon as someone is contacted that death of a person is imminent, he reaches for the liquid precooler And turns it on. This begins the cooling of the gel, the unit is hooked to the battery pack as they carry it out to the car and plug it into the lighter. By the time they arrive at the hospital, the gel will have been cooled to just below freezing. Arriving at the hospital, they find that yes, the patient is dead, or he is about to die. Hopefully at this time the doctors have already spoken with the doctors at ALCOR and have administered any drugs ALCOR feels necessary to help in suspension. At this time the refrigeration unit has been turned on and the aluminum cylinder has begun the crash cool down. . (30 Amp draw all Pelteirs at full power). Upon the doctors' call of time of death, They walk into the room with this piece of technology, And begin the process of stretching and sliding the neoprene collar over the head and ensuring a good seal around their neck. . Mouthpiece is next, Sliding it to the back of their throat and checking that the foam expands properly, a single hose comming from the liquid heat exchanger from the mouthpiece is now connected to the pump connector on the interior of the refrigeration unit. Nose plugs are added after a thin wire temperature sensor is slid into the sinuses. Refrigeration unit is now slid over the person's head and the snapring of the collar is locked into place . A hose to the refrigeration unit already hooked the precooler. Precooler dumps the below freezing liquid into the chamber, this is not done with any atmospheric change as there is a venting plug at the top of cylinder that allows air to escape as it is filled with the gel. (Preventing the gel from being forced into openings) The below freezing gel will fill to the top of the unit, and a plug will cover the vent hole once it is done. The circulation pumps and thermostats take over from here, two pumps. Intake on one takes in gel from the top of the unit, pumps it past a radiator on a peltier and forces it out in a region the behind of the head This is to allow a continuous flow of cooled fluid to circulate within the chamber. The second unit pumps the gel through the liquid heat exchanger in the mouthpiece and recycles it back into the cylinder. The reason that the gel is set to just below freezing is to get a head start on the cooling process, the body may still be at a significant temperature that needs to be drawn away quickly. To lessen the requirement for the peltiers to dissipate the heat by themselves in the first few minutes of cooling At this point manual intervention should no longer be needed, A simple visual check of temperature and leak checking around the neck should be sufficent, the unit will automatically adjust for temperature without the need for other forms of cooling. Properly done. it is now jut a matter of time for ALCOR to arrive. Or possibly transport the patient directly to their facilities and cutting down on the time laps between death and full suspension. Please feel free to share this document with all the members of ALCOR or any agency that you feel may find this device of interest. Perhaps this could be used in treatment of severe fever or heatstroke (without fluid or modified with wet sponges) to prevent brain damage. Estimated cost for the scientific prototype at this time is 450.00 in parts. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I estimate that the prototype should be finished by the end of October providing finances do not become an issue.
