Subject: Increased Security for Alcor and CI?
Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 08:59:49 -0700

There has been a lot of discussion about how to protect Alcor and CI from
terrorists attacks.

Although it is understandable that we are concerned about terrorism after
recent events, considering Alcor and CI's low profile, a terrorist attack
seems a relatively *low* probability threat to those in suspension.

Comfortingly, both Alcor and CI think a lot about security and have chosen
storage locations with low incendence of natural disasters.

However, if cryonics facilities want to expend resources to increase
security, I believe they should enhance defenses against *higher*
probability threats like fires, accidental large truck and plane crashes,
sabotage by disgruntled employees, etc, events that occur nearly every day
in every city in the world.

Perhaps common threats are more boring to think and talk about than
terrorism, but natural disasters and man-made accidents that can damage and
destroy dewars occur much, much more frequently than the occaisional
terrorist attack.
