X-Message-Number: 1756 Date: 16 Feb 93 23:39:17 EST From: Charles Platt <> Subject: CRYONICS Science Fiction To: Cryonet Just for the record, I will be at the science fiction convention in San Francisco, and very happy to help Lola or Ben or anyone else who wants to promote cryonics there. My previous rather hasty message did not make this clear. If Lola can raise the money to host a room at the convention, I think that's great; I just hope she doesn't expect TOO much to come of it. As for a panel, I can suggest writers whom I know personally who have expressed strong interest in cryonics: Joe Haldeman (well informed but still reluctant to commit himself), Greg Bear (author of HEADS, the only contemporary cryonics novel that I am aware of), and Gregory Benford (who recently proposed freezing endangered species from South American rain forests but might want to keep professional distance from cryonics itself). Also as a sometime author of science fiction I would of course be willing to be on a panel myself, and could talk about the nonfiction cryonics book which I am (still) writing, and the Omni contest, if anyone remembers it by that time.
