Very interesting. From the picture, it looks like the maximum thickness on these lichens might be one mm if the stalk length is five mm. (The swelling at the top, while somewhat bigger, seems to be hollowed out.) Is this correct? The CI website states "Many biological specimens have been frozen, stored at liquid nitrogen temperature where all molecular decay ceases, and revived; these include whole insects, vinegar eels..." Does anyone have references to the freezing of whole insects or vinegar eels? I believe the maximum thickness of a whole plant or animal frozen to LN2 temperature would be an interesting number to watch for progress.
