Subject: Re: Intelligence is not the same as consciousness

Hello all,

I suspect that if the consciousness/qualia/subjective
experience phenomenon can be reproduced at all, it
will be intelligent machines that figure out how to do
so (or perhaps a human-machine interface).

This assumes that consciousness is not an automatic
correlate of heightened intelligence.

However, is it not a bit anthropocentric to presume
that an intelligent but non-conscious machine will for
some reason want to become conscious?

IOW, what would an intelligent machine find attractive
about consciousness?

Just curious.
