Subject: Swayze Fund

Kennita Watson asks how far short the James Swayze Fund is now.

We estimate the cost of a suspension for James, including local help, will be
at least $32,000. I have committed myself to make up any deficiency, if
donations by others reach at least $20,000. Donations received currently
total around $12,000.

A couple of people have expressed an inclination to jump in at the last
minute, to an undisclosed amount, if there should be an emergency, but we
don't want to find ourselves in that situation. We are somewhat reluctant to
keep posting numbers, because psychology is delicate and erratic, and it's
difficult to guess who will be motivated to hold back, according to whether
the impression is that we are close or far. Some might hold back for either
reason--that the gap is so large it's hopeless, or so small that someone else
is sure to close it.

I hope that at least several more people will just go ahead and make a
donation, or a further donation, now. If we pass the actual cost of
suspension, donations will be returned on a pro rata basis.

Checks should be payable to the Cryonics Institute (memo James Swayze Fund)
and mailed to Cryonics Institute, 24355 Sorrentino Court, Clinton Township MI
48035. Credit card payments can be made through Paypal.com using our email
address of
