X-Message-Number: 18389 From: "Mark Plus" <> Subject: "Sanctity of Human Life Week" Date: Mon, 21 Jan 2002 09:22:26 -0800 This week is supposed to be "Sanctity of Human Life Week." E.g., link to, http://www.family.org/pregnancy/general/A0017923.html However, the people who support such a celebration seem to have arbitrarily defined "human life" as fetuses and babies, and are directing their energies towards stopping abortions. They don't seem to be nearly as bothered by the totally needless destruction of older humans due to assaults, degenerative diseases, misadventures and aging -- needless, that is to say, if the reasoning behind the cryonics proposal turns out to be empirically vindicated. It seems to me that a logically and morally consistent "sanctitarian" philosophy would practically converge with Immortalism. This hasn't happened yet in part because of creationist beliefs about vulnerability to death being part of humanity's "intelligent design."
