Actually, there is such a fund, known as the Cryonics Assistance Fund of 
the Society for Venturism. Contributions should be tax-deductible, since SV 
is 501(c)3. Right now we are completely focused on helping James Swayze 
(and some generous contributions have come in--many thanks), but we hope to 
raise more money in the future for other hardship cases. We do not want to 
be focused simply on raising money "when it's needed" but on having a 
nonzero balance at all times, that will grow with investments and so on.
