I am in complete agreement with David Pizer that cryonics facilities should
be in isolated areas far from large population centers. Unfortunately the
exact reverse is true. Our two largest service providers, Cryonics
Institute and Alcor, are in the Detroit and Phoenix metropolitan areas
respectively.

My guess, expressed a number of times, is that successful revival from
suspension is most threatened by the risk that the patients will be
destroyed before they can be restored to normal life. Like most
cryonicists, I believe that future science will find a way to cure our
ills, reverse aging, and repair the damage caused by current suspension
techniques, IF we wait long enough. That is the big if. We must remain
safely preserved for 50 to 200 years.

Two things are required: (1) Transfer of our service providers to locations
at least 100 miles from big cities. (2) Self contained facilities. The
installations must contain liquid nitrogen plants, electric power sources,
and enough fuel to run for a couple of years without commercial power.

I have investigated these requirements, and they are not beyond our means.
We should contact our service providers and express our concerns. I have
done so, and I hope that others will as well. If enough us get behind this,
it will happen.
