Actually, by definition, I am already a cyborg but I suppose these folks feel that delving further into the nervous system with the use of cybernetic computer systems attached to nerves is more cyborg than others but still others may argue this point. As I understand it a cyborg merely is someone that requires technology to live. This could include many of us already. Merriam Webster's dictionary says: One entry found for cyborg. Main Entry: cy borg Pronunciation: 'sI-"borg Function: noun Etymology: cybernetic + organism Date: 1960 : a bionic human I have an implanted computer controlled pump that drips continuously a metered dose of a drug into my spine to control contractures and the resulting pain from them. Without it my blood pressure climbs to exceedingly dangerous levels and would likely have killed me already. I literaly could not live without it and therefore by the definition I came across once I am a cyborg. However, that's of little consequence concerning the below article that is interesting on it's own merits. http://dailynews.netscape.com/dailynews/cnn/story_2.tmpl?story=2002032210065001126809&shortdate=0322 Scientists test first human cyborg CNN.com Friday, March 22, 2002 Excerpt 1 "A British university professor has been fitted with cyborg technology enabling his nervous system to be linked to a computer. The ground-breaking surgery on Professor Kevin Warwick effectively makes him the world's first cyborg -- part human, part machine." Excerpt 2 "Surgeons implanted a silicon square about 3mm wide into an incision in Warwick's left wrist and attached its 100 electrodes, each as thin as a hair, into the median nerve."
