X-Message-Number: 18894 From: "Bryan Hall" <> Subject: FDA Approves Implantable Chip Date: Fri, 5 Apr 2002 19:16:37 -0800 The Federal Drug Administration has ruled that the Verichip, an implantable microchip the size of a grain of rice used for ID purposes, is not a regulated device, so it can now be sold in the United States. This might be eventually used to monitor the vital signs and GPS location of people signed up for cryonics. If a member suddenly deanimates, the cryonics company could immediately know where the person is located and respond immediately. This would be great for those of us who live alone! It looks like it costs about $200 to implant, and $40 a year service fee.
