X-Message-Number: 1903 Date: 06 Mar 93 01:54:51 EST From: Clarissa Wells <> Subject: CRYONICS Identity To: >INTERNET: I'd like to thank Steve Harris for saying something which I tried to say myself, but not so eloquently, which is that what someone says should be more important than who says it. One reason I backed away from Cryonet was the personal abuse aimed in my direction. Just for the record, being called a "liar" is not accurate and it would not be accurate if I was using the name of my daughter, my spouse, or my pet cat. Every statement I have made here and in personal messages to cryonics people is true. Isn't that what counts? As for being a "coward," try to put yourself in my position. There has been an astonishing amount of interest in my messages. Would this disappear if I told everyone my home phone, my address, and my place of business? No, I would start getting phone calls from people wanting to argue with me or enroll me for membership in a cryonics group, and someone might even show up in person to find out whether I am "real." Since Mr. Henson has publicly announced his phone number, I am willing to give him a call during this month, at a time when I can use someone else's phone. For all I know, Mr. Henson has "caller ID" in his area, and I don't want my own number getting around. This may seem paranoid, but really, some of the malice here has been quite surprising (although not from him personally). Unlike some people who seem to live and breathe cryonics, I have a busy life outside it. I don't feel I should have to "prove myself" here, so why should I make myself vulnerable to a lot of time-wasting, and perhaps some abuse? C.W.
