X-Message-Number: 19033 Date: Thu, 9 May 2002 09:33:20 -0400 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: CryoNet #19031 - #19032 Hi (for Natasha): Perhaps because I've never automatically assumed that things MUST go well you have decided that I am pessimistic. I am not. As for "the apt reasoning of extropians and many other transhumanists" I am sure that some extropians and transhumans have apt reasoning, but completely fail to see how apt reasoning only occurs among extropians and transhumanists. I know you did not say that, but your statements seem to be some kind of refutation of what you believe to be my beliefs. Just what we'll choose to become in the future, as individuals, remains unknown... both to us as individuals and as a biological species. Speaking only for myself, I am happy to adopt any change which increases my insight and/or adapts me better to the world in which I choose to live (as opposed to adaptations which make me "better" as seen by some or many others). I would also prefer to retain my basic human form, mainly because it helps in contacting other people. And naturally I would consider much longer lifespan to be part of such a change. Yet this is provisional: what will happen in the future and how I will choose to adapt to it remain unknown. Best wishes and long long life, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=19033
