X-Message-Number: 19083 Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 11:38:50 -0400 (EDT) From: Charles Platt <> Subject: science-fiction writers Sorry to hear that Damien Broderick isn't interested in signing with any cryonics organizations, but at least his reasons are comprehensible! Someone asked about Vernor Vinge. I raised the issue with him once during a phone conversation on another topic. Vernor was quite thoroughly informed about cryonics (as I expected him to be) but then said, a bit abruptly, "I'm not interested right now." Period. Since I know him as a fairly private man, there is of course the possibility that he has signed up but prefers not to go public. Since I respect anyone's desire for privacy, I didn't want to put him in a difficult position by asking more questions. But it always seemed to me, in view of his novel MAROONED IN REALTIME, his computer background, and his insane optimism (!) he should have been the first science-fiction writer to make cryonics arrangements. And who knows; maybe he was. --CP Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=19083
