Sorry, Riemann geometry describes curved space with N (N any positive 
integer) dimensions without assuming N+1 dimensions. A curved N space needs 
not N+1 flat space, even if the picture help the mind to see what is space 
curvature. General Relativity is built on 4 curved dimensions and needs not a 
5th for example ( there is even strong cases for disregarding a 5th 
dimension).
