You get the beneficial life extending effects of caloric restriction ... without starving. Here's a current Scientific American article discussing it. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=000BC08E-5B8C-1D2B-97CA809EC588EEDF&catID=2 Also, here's an abstract that suggests anti-diabetics such as metformin may be effective CR mimetics. http://www.americanaging.org/abs/Roth.htm An enthusiastic article on metformin by Ward Dean, MD http://www.smart-drugs.com/Ward-Dean-metformin.htm Interesting. Decreased sensitivity to insulin is so common among older adults that almost all in their 40s or over are considered barely sub-clinical for diabetes. Note to those who consider taking metformin, consider supplementing with generous doses of B-12 and monitor your insulin level to avoid hypoglycemia. Does anyone have useful experience or knowledge in this area? Scott Badger __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
