X-Message-Number: 19745 From: Date: Sat, 10 Aug 2002 10:58:17 EDT Subject: CSICOP insufficiently skeptical --part1_139.129d6a3a.2a868409_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The problem with CSICOP is that its leadership uncritically accepts any idea as long as it is fashionable and popular among the powerful. CSICOP will expose "cults" (defined as any religion small enough not to have political power), but they don't take on the really big frauds. When was the last time the Skeptical Inquirer ran an article on the workings of the Federal Reserve? Or Social Security? Or US foreign "aid"? Or the FDA? Or publik skools? Or Drug Prohibition? Of course we shouldn't expect too much of humans; most of the human skeptical gene pool was killed off arond 10,000 BC for applying too much skepticism to the first god-kings. Don't worry; as soon as cryonics is big enough to have good lobbyists and lawyers, CSICOP will move on to attacking some smaller target. -Bill --part1_139.129d6a3a.2a868409_boundary Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" [ AUTOMATICALLY SKIPPING HTML ENCODING! ] Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=19745
