Subject: Bets

There is an futurist organization that is betting real
money on various future events:www.longbets.org

They get around the gambling laws by having the
proceeds go to charities chosen by the betters. I
think the minimum bet is something like $1000--and the
"pot" is kept in a trust fund that is carefully
invested. IMHO this might be an interesting way for
someone to donate money to Alcor--specially, around
some event that is going to be clearly of "public
importance" like the successful reanimation of a
mammal from liquid nitrogen temperatures in the next
50 years.

There are some problems with www.longbets.org. Last
time I checked, they only allowed even odds bets--and
there is no "trading" so odds are static.
