Hate Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 10:21:10 -0000 I agree with the postings disagreeing with militant campaigns against religions etc. Never mind the ethical and moral arguments -- these mean all things to all men and can be twisted and changed to provide whatever point of view you want to get across. Simple pragmatism gives the conclusion: Militant campaigns directed at groups do not work. If you disagree with religion, say why. If your reason is sound, then this will influence others. If a self confessed member of a religion does something bad, then attack him personally for doing the bad thing, but don't blame all other members of that religion - they are not directly responsible for what he has done. Of course it is easier to attack other members of the same religion, but the benefits, if any, are marginal to say the least. Philosophies and ideas within a religion may encourage people, who don't think them through properly, to do bad things, that is true. But again it should be possible to argue against them in terms of the religion, rather than attack the religion as a whole. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, Holistics, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=20508
